Kurt Alberts graduated with a degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the School of Environmental Studies at the University of Waterloo. And then proceeded to spend over 25 years giving planning advice to various municipal Councils and Regional District Boards beginning his local government work in Ontario in the Region of Sudbury, the Region of York, and the City of Oshawa.

Subsequently, he became the first City Planner for the City of Lethbridge, Alberta. In British Columbia, he has held Director of Planning positions in the Kootenay Boundary Regional District and the Township of Langley.

In 1999, Kurt Alberts was elected as Mayor for the Township of Langley and continued in that capacity until 2008.

Kurt has a special interest in the history of Langley and in 1998 published and co-authored the book, “Langley 125, A Celebration” which earned recognition by the B.C. Heritage Society with a Heritage Conservation Award.

Kurt’s contributions to his community have also been recognized with a Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal and a Paul Harris Fellow. Kurt believes that you build community through partnerships and by working together.
